IPM Achievement Awards
As we "Transcend Boundaries" for March 2009's International Integrated Pest Management Symposium, we also will be seeking nominations for the "IPM Achievement Awards". Individuals, organizations, or companies worthy of recognition for implementation of integrated pest management (IPM)—innovative approaches to reduced-risk pest management—in agricultural and nonagricultural settings (such as schools, parks, municipalities, and communities) are appropriate candidates for this award.
Criteria
Candidates for the IPM Achievement Award should be people, businesses, or organizations deserving special recognition for their work in implementing integrated pest management practices that reduce risk from pests and the use of pest management practices. The goal of this award is to recognize efforts that have carried through to the implementation of IPM practices aimed at reducing risks and costs while minimizing negative impacts on people and the environment. Appropriate nominees are those whose activities have made notable contributions to 1) improving economic benefits related to IPM adoption, 2) reducing potential human health risks, and/or 3) minimizing adverse environmental effects. IPM users, promoters, service providers and others that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to IPM implementation, promotion or service, especially those having a direct and positive impact are sought. This award is intended to recognize outstanding examples of effective IPM implementation demonstrating a positive impact on end-users. Individuals, organizations or companies practicing or serving IPM needs in any setting including, but not limited to agriculture and forestry, natural resources and recreation environments, and residential and public areas may be nominated.

Some activities that meet these criteria could include, but are not limited to:
- demonstrating new IPM practices or tools;
- allowing IPM methods to be evaluated in their operations, businesses, or organizations;
- facilitating adoption of IPM practices in and around residences;
- promoting IPM and bolstering the adoption of IPM practices;
- implementing an effective IPM program that reduces pesticide use and risk in a school, community or other public setting.
Anyone may nominate another individual, organization or business, even self-nominations will be accepted. Nominations of commodity groups, private organizations, non-profit organizations, consultants, growers, and municipalities are encouraged. International nominations are also welcome.
The Awards will be presented during a special ceremony during the International IPM Symposium in Portland, Oregon from March 24-26, 2009.
Award nominations/applications will be completed through this web site and will commence in the Summer of 2008. Selections will be made prior to the Symposium. Winners will receive free registration.
